Licence:-
Before driving on a public road, you will need a valid Provisional Driving Licence.  The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) application form (D1) can be obtained from your local post office but you can also apply online from the DVSA (Driver Vehicle Standards Agency) website.

Pass Your Theory Test:-
Once you have received your provisional licence, you can start taking lessons but you also need to think about taking the theory test.

The theory test is made up of two sections. A Multiple Choice section and a Hazard Perception test. The multiple choice section is delivered using a touch screen computer and mouse, while the hazard perception test records your responses through the use of a computer mouse button.

You will need to pass both parts to successfully complete your theory test. If you pass one part and fail the other, you will fail the whole test, and will have to take both parts again.
You can book your Theory test through the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) website www.gov.uk

Practical Test:-
Ok, you have your theory test out of the way, so when your driving has reached a suitable level, you can book your practical test.

On your test day you will be required to do an eyesight check by reading a number plate from a certain distance away. After the eyesight check you will be asked a vehicle safety question. This is a basic safety check that a driver should carry out to ensure the vehicle is safe for use.
Afterwards you will be examined on your driving ability.  The test will last approximately 40 minutes and will include 1 manoeuvre.   You may also be asked to carry out an emergency stop.
An independent driving section lasting 20 minutes is included as part of the practical test, during which, you will be assessed on your ability to drive safely while making decisions independently. You will also be asked to carry out a 'show me' question while you are driving.

To book your practical driving test go to http://www.gov.uk and follow the link to ‘Motoring’ and then 'Learners and new drivers and riders’.
